WHAT CAN WE DO FOR YOU?
Reclaiming Lost and Forgotten Spaces

Much of our work over these past two plus decades has been in the many 18th and 19th century brick row houses of Boston’s Back Bay, Bay Village, Beacon Hill, and South End. One feature most homes of this vintage have in common is that they lack the necessary closet and storage space that the modern household requires. Clearly, we all had fewer things and less stuff back in the olden days.

This winter we were asked by a long-time client to create a closet in the space of a discontinued stairwell. The home is a mid 19th century freestanding single-family house just outside of Harvard Square.

It was a brilliant idea; the space had been lost and forgotten since prior to the existing owner’s tenancy, dating back 50 plus years.

All we needed to do was remove the built-in bookcase that was blocking the entrance, install a subfloor and finished floor, restore the heavily damaged walls and ceiling, prime, paint, add cleats for mounting hooks, and install a bi-fold louvered door. An electrician followed our work and installed an overhead light.

The finished closet is a walk-in, roomy, bright, and adds about 180 cubic feet of storage space. A success and a very happy client!
